The choices themselves are mostly weighty. The concept of choices mattering in narrative adventure games like Star Trek: Resurgence gets a chance to expand when the choices the characters make have vastly different influences on unfolding events. It allows players to see the story unfold from two different perspectives with different responsibilities and choices. The choice to feature a leader of the crew and a member of the famed “lower decks” was an excellent one. Star Trek: Resurgence puts players in the shoes of First Officer Jara Rydek and Engineering Crewporson Caron Diaz, two members of the U.S.S. What better way to do that than with the iconic Star Trek franchise? The team at Dramatic Labs, a group of former Telltale developers, was created to bring their beloved narrative adventures back to the forefront of gaming. That's why they'll never promote each other- because even though both developers (presumably) love Star Trek, they love their own products and money more. When Star Trek: Resurgence was first announced in December 2021 it brought an air of excitement. They, as a business relying on a consistently cornered market, hate that. For the first time in years, their main drawcard of "you cannot get a modern Trek experience in gaming anywhere else" is no longer true. This is the first game that takes their audience away, within the same universe. STO has held the Star Trek gaming market in monopoly for a decade. Would the Resolute be a C-store ship? Gamble box? And then where do the profits for the ship sales go? The model would need to be made from scratch. In this case, it's the same intellectual property (Star Trek), but different studios arguing the same thing. Different parent companies, both competing for the profits and shares on their properties. It's a smaller scale version of a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover. True, but sadly like most crossovers, unless owned by the same company, it'll likely never happen.
